3.2.6 Lubrication. All bearings [except sealed-for-life type) and moving
parts shall be provided with means for lubrication. All grease and oil fittings
shall be easily accessible, without removal of other parts or components, and
have means of sealing the openings to prevent dirt and foreign matter from
entering.
3.2.7 Lifting eye. The machines shall be Provided with a lifting eye for
handling by a crane or hoist. The eye shall be located at the top of the machine
at the normal center of balance. The lifting eye shall be capable of supporting
two and one-half times the weight of the machine and shall be mounted in such
a manner that the machine and its accessories retain alignment during lifting
operations.
3.2.8 Enclosure. The machine shall be contained in a weather-proofed
enclosure or be inherently weatherproof. The Type II,III and IV machines shall
have hinged or removable panels for access and operation. Design of the enclosure
shall be such that internal parts are protected from the weather even when the
enclosure is opened in the operating position, The sheet metal of the enclosure
shall be not less than 0.045 inches in thickness.
3.2.9 Operating temperature. The welding generators shall conform to the
operating temperature requirements of NEMA Standard EW-l.

3.3 Construction. The machines shall be constructed so that when installed
and operated, they can be used for any purpose for which they were designed.
The machines shall be constructed of parts which are sound in structure and free
from any repair.
3.3.1 Castings and forgings. All castings and forgings shall be free from
defects such as scale and mismatching. In no event shall such processes as
welding, peening, plugging, or filling with solder or pastes be used on castings
or forgings to reclaim any defective parts for use on the machines.
3.3.2 Welding , brazing, or soldering. Welding, brazing. or soldering shall
be employed only where these operations are required in the original design.
3.3.3 Fastening devices. All screws, pins, bolts, and similar fasteners
shall be Installed with means for preventing loss to tightness.
fasteners subject to removal or adjustment shall not be swagged, peened,
staked, or otherwise permanently deformed.
